Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer strokes to reach the deeper layers of muscle and fascia, easing long-standing tightness in the back, neck, shoulders and legs. At The Therapy Studio in Rimington a 60-minute treatment is £65 and a 90-minute treatment is £85.
What it is good for
Chronic tension from desk work or driving, stiff shoulders and necks, tight hips and calves, and areas that a lighter massage never quite reaches.
Pressure is always worked up to gradually. Deeper does not mean harder for the sake of it — it means slower and more specific.
How it fits with other treatment
Deep tissue work sits naturally alongside sports massage and remedial treatment, and can be combined with stretching and rehab advice.
If pain is coming from something other than muscle, Steph will say so and point you in the right direction.
